Blue Star Mothers Plan Talk on Vets

LEOMINSTER — The Blue Star Mothers of Massachusetts, Chapter 1, will co-host a panel discussion of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans and military families Sunday, March 3, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Leominster Veterans Center, 100 West St.

The event, presented in collaboration with the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program, will focus on the challenges facing returning veterans and their families, and how the community can help.

Panel discussion topics include:

  •  The realities of combat deployment and coming home.
  • Stresses placed on warriors and their families.
  • The “invisible wounds of war.”
  •  How communities are affected.
  • Opportunities to support military families.

The Blue Star Mothers of Massachusetts, Chapter 1, is a group of mothers of children who are serving or have served in the U.S. military.

The group meets monthly to participate in activities that support each other, their children, wounded veterans in need, and military families within the community.

The Home Base Program serves Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and military families affected by the “invisible wounds of war” — post-traumatic stress and traumatic brain injury — through clinical care, community education and research.

“We are especially pleased to partner with the Home Base Program, to discuss the challenges facing returning veterans and their families,” chapter co-presidents Maureen O’Gorman and Susan Hall said in a statement. “With the wars winding down, it is important for the community to realize that our job is not over. Now, more than ever, we need to step up and support veterans and military families.”

The event is open to all in support of our military and veteran community, and offers accessible seating. RSVP by email to [email protected].
